Unamkubali Chambiiiii au Mrs Mengi? Mwenziyo mie nawakubali wote, na Reg mwenyewe. A small correction: Mercy was a capable woman, very entrepreneurial as you’d expect of the Mangi’s daughter. She was running the family businesses very well even without Reg’s input – he being busy enough as C&L’s Senior Partner. The reason why Mengi left C&L is quite simple, he was voted out by his partners. Roundabout 1984 as we all know there was acute shortage of forex, so nothing was being remitted to the Firm in London. The question was whether C&L should become a local firm and cut the London connection, or retain the name but downsize and dismiss staff tjat were surplus to needs in the circumstances. He was outvoted; he left along with at least a dozen of the C&L crack team, each went their own ways. They pursued other errands and, yes, Mengi went to strengthen the family business. Fortunes changed, forex came back, the name was changed to PwC and the rest is history.
