By Faith Andrew
I chose not to cower,
With my head held high,
I chose to empower,
I’m planning to devour,
All that I encounter,
I am not a damsel in distress,
Waiting to be a princess,
I am a being with purpose,
Not the cause of perplex,
I am woman.
Why should I not have my rights?
Why should I not make decisions in the family?
Why should I not lead the society?
Why should my education not be a necessity?
Why should my brother be the only priority?
Why should my role be a decision of the society?
Why should I not be employed?
Why should my voice be silenced?
Why should my courage be questioned?
Why should my gender be inferior?
It’s not part of the plan,
To be better than man,
I crave for equality,
Where I will find prosperity,
It’s in my blood to fight,
With courage and might,
My fight will not be of weapons,
My fight will not be of politics,
My fight will be of women,
Women of the same cravings,
Women of the same fight,
Women of the same struggle.
It’s bound to be intimidating,
As a fierce woman,
I will not change the world,
With a gun,
I will not change the world,
With misfit leaders,
I will not use false authority,
To turn the gears,
I change the whole society,
With a word,
I change all that surrounds,
With an expression,
I am woman.
