To The One Who Forges My Womanhood

By Faith Andrew

To the one who forges my womanhood,
Seek not my growing years,
Seek not my changing body,
Illustrate the works of my mind.As I carry menacing thoughts,
Color the visions of my eyes
As I see beyond my time,
Embrace the works of my hands
As I wear my duty as a crown.

To the one who forges my womanhood,
devise me in an indecorous manner,
develop me in a profound standard,
design me on a colossal banner,
declare me phenomenal,
divulge me optional,
disclose me irrational.

To the one who forges my womanhood,
Make me out of pure steel,
Coat me impenetrable,
Label me unbreakable
But don’t let me be empty,
Give me a heart,
A heart that can lift the weight of love,
A heart that can endure the burdens of hate,
A loud heart with silenced pain.

To the one who forges my womanhood,
make no haste,
let not your talent go to waste,
For it is life you create,
A life of momentary laughter,
A life of intense burdens,
A life of complex duty,
A life of perplexing patterns,
A life of extraordinary beauty.
